Visual Stress, Urban Vimbuza: Death by Free Enterprise, performance at Bluecoat

Liverpool collective Visual Stress’ performance was staged at Bluecoat the same week that Tate of the North (later Tate Liverpool) opened. Confronting the still unfolding story of rapacious global capital, the group’s first Urban Vimbuza ritual also ‘cleansed’ the building of its Transatlantic slave trade connections. The group did a second Vimbuza using the outside of Liverpool’s St George’s Hall in 1992, similarly engaging with an iconic Liverpool building.
