Albin Roberts Burt (1783-1842), painting of Captain Hugh Crow (1765-1829)
This painting, dated 1820, in the collection of the International Slavery Museum, is of Hugh Crow, a prominent Liverpool slaver who left money to the Blue Coat School in his will. He tells his unrepentant story in The Memoirs of Captain Hugh Crow: The Life and Times of a Slave Trade Captain (published 2007, Bodleian Library, with an introduction by John Pinfold).
