Subscriptions, Schooling and Slavery brochure
Liverpool merchants contributed substantial funding towards the establishment and growth of the Blue Coat School in the 18th century. Some of their wealth was derived from Transatlantic slavery, either directly or from trading of slavery-related goods such as sugar, tobacco and cotton. This brochure presents a summary of research carried out by Dr Sophie H. Jones, supported by the University of Liverpool's LiNK scheme, in 2015. Her findings were presented at a Bluecoat heritage weekend in March 2016 and again in November 2017 as part of the arts centre's Bluecoat 300: Charity, Philanthropy and the Black Atlantic symposium organised with several universities and the International Slavery Museum at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jnr. building at the city's Albert Dock.
